Each year, over 48,000 babies are admitted to Neonatal Intensive Care Units or Special Care Nurseries across Australia- that's approximately 1 in 7 babies. Life's Little Treasures Foundation is an Australian charity dedicated to providing critical information, emotional and financial assistance as well as connection opportunities to families of children born sick or prematurely.
Our fundraising campaign has now finished! Thank you all so much for your support; together, we raised an incredible $401,000 for Life's Little Treasures Foundation, an Australian charity dedicated to providing essential information, emotional and financial assistance, and opportunities for connection to families of children born sick or prematurely.
Life’s Little Treasures Foundation provides practical support, information and assistance to families of babies born prematurely or sick. Founded in 2005 by parents who had experienced this first-hand, LLTF truly understands the challenges that these families face. LLTF services are available in hospital and in the community when families come home.
Presented by Baby Bunting, Walk for Prems is the largest annual fundraiser by Life’s Little Treasures Foundation. Funds raised go directly to supporting families who face the unexpected emotional and financial cost of having a baby born sick or premature.
In 2024, Walk for Prems will take place in October across nine different locations.
Life's Little Treasures is here to provide you with friendship, support and information. To help you through difficult periods. Having someone to talk with who you know truly understands the journey you are on can make things so much easier for you.
For the past 9 years, Baby Bunting has proudly supported Life’s Little Treasures Foundation in their incredible efforts to connect families all over Australia and raise money and awareness for premature and sick babies through the annual Walk for Prems event.
Tilly and Mabel, our little fighters, arrived at 31 weeks, weighing just 1495 grams and 2060 grams respectively. The girls were both on CPAP for the first few days of their lives and seemed to be making steady progress.
At 3 weeks old, just as we were preparing to think about their transition home, the girls both became quite ill with Enterovirus.
As Mabel was not responding to any medication or intervention she was given a higher dose of heart-stabilising medication and her little body went into cardiac arrest. We watched the room fill up with doctors and nurses as they worked tirelessly to resuscitate our baby with CPR.
The days that followed saw our girls collectively endure lumbar punctures, canular and arterial line insertions, EEG’s, ECG’s and a blood transfusion. These tests revealed that both of our girls tested positive for Enterovirus Myocarditis and Enterovirus Meningitis.
Our babies spent just shy of 2 months in the hospital. In that time, we were blown away by the compassion and care shown by the nurses and doctors. Life in the NICU can be so tough. It’s always hard being in the NICU for special holidays but the wonderful Life’s Little Treasures Foundation made our girl’s first Easter special with lovely cards and gifts. They also sent us a ‘Precious Prem Pack’ with the most beautiful baby knits and gifts. Their generosity brought us to tears.
As a cause very close to our hearts, Life's Little Treasures Foundation provides a vital source of information and support for families enduring the most difficult of circumstances. We are determined to continue supporting the incredible work they undertake to help ensure the best possible health and wellbeing for these families.
